A word on safety
The terrible bomb attacks in South Bali, which took place several years ago, have touched us deeply. Yet, Northern Bali and our small resort are still very safe, since the big and crowded tourist places are the typical targets for terror attacks; and those places are far away. Our spacious gardens, with lots of flowers and trees, but very few houses and people, will hardly attract the attention of terrorists. And, although enjoying privacy and individuality, you can always feel well protected: During the day, our gardeners are always within earshot, and at night, every house has its own guard to make sure that you will not be molested by anything or anyone in your sleep. We are convinced that CBG offers you more security than any densely frequented place around the world!
What about Tsunamis? We are situated on the northern coast of Bali, which on account of the shifts within the notorious subduction area to the West of Sumatra or high risk zones south of the Indonesian archipelago, is not at risk. However, there have been minor tsunamis due to local seaquakes between the Philippines and Indonesia, but only over very long periods of time. Historic sources speak of such incidents. Thus, we cannot exclude the possibility of such occurrences with absolute certainty. Therefore, it was our concern to find ways of responsibly dealing with a potential risk, however small it may be. We decided to introduce certain safety measures: In the case of a noticeable seaquake, or if we receive news of a regional seaquake, we generally make sure to gather all the news on radio and TV. Should a stronger seaquake take place at night, our guards are instructed to warn our guests. If signs of a possible tsunami accumulate, there will be instant evacuation, i.e. you will be asked to follow our staff immediately (which means leaving your luggage behind) on an established escape route leading you to higher ground, and thus to safety, in a minimal amount of time. You’ll find an information leaflet in all our houses and we asked to read it. We have instructed our staff not to worry about the possibility of false alarms, since we consider it much better to be safe than sorry…
And also, a word on health: During the last decade, Malaria got an increasing problem in Africa as well as Asia. Still, Bali and the urban areas in Java are considered Malaria-free. Therefore, Malaria prophylaxis is unnecessary, considering that Malaria drugs, esp. Lariam, have substantial side effects. If you really want to be on the safe side, you should get the “stand-by drug” Malarone. But, in any case, bring along a mosquito repellent to treat your arms and legs, mainly during evening twilight. While during the day, the pleasant breeze drives mosquitos away, since we are located right at the shore. For sleeping, we can provide you with mosquito nets. Please, make sure that you have a valid Tetanus immunization. Hepatitis infection can also be excluded by having been immunized.
The internet offers detailed and up-to-date information on tropical
disease control for Bali: During the last years, health care in Indonesia improved quite a bit, and Bali has quite decent dental and medical care.
