of Food and Beverages in CBG

Bread

Our well-assorted menu  offers you only the freshest and best quality.  Our food and drinks come from different parts of the island.  The fish we offer, however, is from our local waters and is always served  on the very same day that it is caught.

The start of the day – Our offer for your breakfast

As soon as you get up you will get your `good morning drink`:

Choose a glass  of freshly-brewed Bali coffee  or a glass of tea,  just as you like. After that  we offer you for breakfast a rich choice of basically Western style food:

Breakfast on your sea-side terrace

and in your pavilion

Bali coffee, tea (green, black, or ginger tea),  milk or hot chocolate  will be served with a choice of our home made sunflower seed bread, a tasty wholemeal bread or a Swiss-like Tresse au Beurre  with butter, honey and our home made tropical jam.

You can make your choice  of eggs in different varieties  (e.g. tomato-bacon-  or vegetable omelette),  delicious crispy  Jaffles or “French toast” (bread soaked in milk and eggs  and then fried),  different types of  crèpes  (try ‘plane’ with honey and palm sugar  or with pineapple or banana)  or baked bananas.

In addition we will serve you a large bowl generously filled with fresh tropical fruit of the season:  pineapple,  papaya,  mango,  oranges,  bananas,  manggis,  nangka,  salak,  sirsak  with honey and lime juice and,  if you like,  with our home made yoghurt  –  wholesome and absolutely delicious !

This offer is included in the price for your room.

Lunchtime Snacks

If you are at CBG  around lunchtime or early afternoon,  we will  serve you a surprise lunchtime snack:  Local or regional delicacies for example rice-flour sweets wrapped in palm leaves,  crispy cassava or corn biscuits,  coconut milk cakes or crèpes,  baked bananas,  different types of krupuk  and a drink. We will vary the snacks every day.

Tea and coffee are complimentary all through the day.  Moreover, you will find cold beverages in the refrigerator in your bungalow:  Water, soda and different types of soft drinks,  also beer and the popular local rosé wine made of grapes from the northern coast of Bali.  The drinks you take from the fridge   will be added to your bill;  however,

the lunchtime snack  as well as tea and coffee  are complimentary..

Lunches and Dinners

Considering the tropical temperatures  and the rich breakfast, our guests usually find the lunchtime snack we offer  quite sufficient.  It is the ideal ‘intermezzo’ to make you look forward  to our tasty Balinese dinner in the Balé,  the open pavilion, where you can enjoy your meal as much  as the beautiful view of the sea.  However, should you feel like having a larger meal at lunchtime,  you are welcome to order from our menu.

The dishes we offer  - with few exceptions -  are a typical choice of local and regional Balinese cuisine.   As a rule  they are tasty-spicy but not hot.  Try the numerous, often surprisingly delicious tropical vegetables,  and our fresh fish  caught in the nearby coral reefs  or by ocean fishermen from the neighbourhood.  If you like, you can catch your own tuna or barracuda, accompanied by Pak Cilik or a member of our staff!

the Tuna

Meat is very popular in Bali,  we offer pork and chicken, sometimes duck or lamb, but no beef to account for the Hindu-Balinese religious background.  We are also pleased to fulfil your personal wishes for example vegetarian food or very mildly spiced dishes.

We set great store by ‘side orders’ – which quite often are a bit  neglected in many restaurants. We want to focus them  and prepare them more carefully for you, since all three ‘attendants’: rice, pasta and potatoes, can become very delicious dishes and place a special emphasis onto a spicy or subtle meal !

Like everywhere all over Asia,  rice has in Bali, of course, a central position and importance, since for the Balinese people the rice plant and rice goddess  Dewi Sri   are symbols for fruitfulness and a synonym with ‘life’.

On special occasions and when ordered in time, we prepare a Babi Guling,  the typical Balinese black pig,  filled with herbs and roasted on a bamboo stick.  This is a truly Balinese happening  of almost ritualistic dimensions,  celebrating the slaughter and preparation as well  as the consumption of the animal.  Neighbours will be invited,  and if you wish,  our music group will play Balinese Gamelan music,  and everybody will be joining us for the meal.   To make the experience complete,  we will provide Tuak,  the Balinese palm beer.   A feast for your eyes,  your ears,  and - most of all - your tastebuds!

Dishes from our menu are not as cheap as what you can by along the road or on market. Still the prices are considerably lower than in comparable resorts or Hotels in the neighbourhood. For detailed information, we’ll gladly send you our menu.

By the way  – Should you be interested in learning how to prepare Balinese dishes or like to know  how to make an original Sambal  and to use Balinese herbs:

Our kitchen  is not some dark and mysterious place

and you are always welcome  to drop in!

Our Drinks

Besides the  complimentary warm drinks  for breakfast and during the day  you’ll find – as mentioned before - an assortment of cold drinks  in your refrigerator.   Please let us know on arrival  which choice  you would like to have  in your fridge:  Soda (water with gas),  natural water,  Coca Cola,  Fanta,  Tonic Water,  Bitter Lemon, and other soft drinks.  Should you want to have alcoholic drinks in addition, you can choose  beer,  a fresh, light rosé wine  or a dry red wine,  both from the northern coast of Bali. For special occasions, you may choose a bottle of  Jepun, the delicate Balinese sparkling wine. (These drinks will be added to your daily bill.)

Please order  our tasty fruit juices any time:  freshly made papaya -,  pineapple - or mango juice – or whatever other delicacy the season is offering.  You can also have a ‘lassy’: that is fruit juice  mixed with yoghurt.   Have you ever tried  young coconut juice ?  A wonderfully fresh delight!

Try our Arak Madu

Unlike the muslim inhabitants  of the other islands  in the archipelago,  the Hindu-Balinese love  alcoholic drinks,  and so  we are pleased  to offer you  authentic local liquors:  Tuak,  Brem  and Arak  as well as various types of cocktails (e.g. Arak with honey and lemon – a fabulous and truly ravishing drink). If you prefer Western-style cocktails,  enjoy the sunset  with a glass of Gin Tonic  or a  Campari Soda   as sun downer  or Apero…
